American entertainment magazine People called Korea’s Wonder Girls “a younger version of the Spice Girls.” In the latest issue the magazine covered four Asian pop stars coming to America – Se7ve, BoA, and Wonder Girls from Korea and Utada from Japan – with short biographies and album features. People’s coverage of Wonder Girls stands apart from those of other three Asian musicians, because Se7en, BoA, and Utada have each released an album in America already, but Wonder Girls hasn’t. The article claims that the South Korean quintet will release an English version of “Nobody” – one of three No.1 Asian hits they’ve had since launching two years ago – next month in the U.S. But the management company for Wonder Girls, JYP Entertainment, has refuted the article by saying that there is no detailed plan for the girls’ album release in America. Wonder Girls has toured the U.S. as a guest in the February 2008 concerts of singer Park Jin-young, also the group’s producer. The five girls have also held their own tour in Orange County, Los Angeles, and New York in March of this year. Meanwhile, People described Se7ven as “the Asian answer to Justin Timberlake” and BoA as “the Britney Spears of Asia.” |
