Recently the teaser poster for Ninja Assassin was released and naturally it shows Rain standing in, what else, the rain.
Ninja Assassin is a Warner Bros. picture directed by James McTeigue and produced by the legendary Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers. In addition to Rain, the film also stars Naomie Harris, Ben Miles, Sho Kosugi, and Rick Yune.
Here’s the synopsis of the film provided by ComingSoon.net:
"Raizo (Rain) is one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them...and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge. In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. Now, entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive...and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan."
Here’s a review given by someone that attended an advance screening of Ninja Assassin:
"I just got back from a super-secret, advance screening of Ninja Assassin, the new film from producers Wacko Brothers and their protege director James McTeigue.
It is probably the goriest, most violent film I saw on the big screen after The Passion of the Christ. It also happens to be one of the most exhilarating experiences! When was the last time we got to see black-clad ninjas climbing walls, tearing human limb from human limb, sword-fighting in the rain, fighting behind giant embers of fire, disappearing and appearing again in the blink of an eye? (Not since the 80s, I haven't, when badly dubbed Japanese ninja 'classics' such as Pray for Death were, like shoulder pads and bad haircuts, all the rage!) Ninja Assassin gives you all that and more -- to put it simply, take the best fight portions from Kill Bill, Batman Begins and your favorite Street Fighter video game, and stretch them out to an entire movie, and you have Ninja Assassin!
There is no way, in its present condition, that the MPAA will give this film a R-rating because the violence is not only over-the-top, it makes you wince -- a brawl in a hotel toilet (between a beefy Russian and our hero ninja) is the most vicious fight I have ever seen in cinema, period.
Ninja Assassin is a totally preposterous film that has the good sense to not take itself seriously -- it may only offend the very pretentious viewer who is not clued into the film's intended purpose. Besides the archetypal revenge/father-son/master-apprentice/family honor/coming-of-age/love-triumphs excuse for a story, obviously there are other problems with the film: the interracial love angle does not quite work and there is this bit about the government agency involved in the ninja affairs that's just barely passable. (I am sure these elements will be revised through editing in the coming months.) Still, all forgivable given the great action set pieces and visceral fights. The version I saw is very early: needs a lot of color correction, scoring and general fine-tuning, but it still feels quite close to what you guys will see in the theaters towards the end of the year."

Wow…I’m pleasantly surprised by the review. It sounds like Ninja Assassin is the kind of bad to the bone, action packed, blood filled movie that a sword porn aficionado like myself loves to see. I’m not surprised by the comments on the weak story line though. We all know too well the limits of Rain’s English. Perhaps the director purposely kept Rain’s lines simple and to a minimum and focused more on the action and less on the story, which is fine by me. I’m just speculating though. It could be the fault of the no-name supporting cast, or the screenwriters, or all of the above. Like the reviewer said, what he saw was a very early version so the version we see in the theaters will most certainly be better than what he saw. As long as the action scenes are high quality and original then I won’t be disappointed when I see it, and I definitely will see it when it comes out.
Last but not least is the release dates for the movie. Here’s the current list of where and when Ninja Assassin will arrive at a theater near you:

Australia- November 26th, 2009
Malaysia- November 26th, 2009
UK- November 27th, 2009
Germany- December 3rd, 2009
Italy- December 4th, 2009
Argentina- December 10th, 2009
Netherlands- December 10th, 2009
Russia- December 17th, 2009
Czech Republic- December 24th, 2009
Spain- December 25th, 2009
Rain trained hard for Ninja Assassin and from what I’ve seen and heard so far, Clouds and ninja fanatics alike will probably enjoy it. Actually, if the final version of the movie is just as gruesome as the early version that the reviewer saw, then the younger Clouds’ innocent eyes may not be able to handle all the blood and gore. They might rain down chunks of vomit in the theater so take an umbrella when you see this movie, just in case.
